| Creativity became my sense of belonging long before it became my career. Growing up between cultures, I often felt like I existed in the space between identities — too Asian to feel fully local, yet too local to feel fully Asian. During my postgraduate publication, Unravel, I began to understand that this duality was not a limitation, but a perspective that allowed me to see stories others might overlook. That realisation sparked my passion for using creativity to champion voices that struggle to be heard. Entering the advertising industry was not seamless. Coming from an academic background, I initially struggled to find my footing in a fast-paced, skills-driven environment. However, those early challenges shaped my empathy as a leader and strengthened my commitment to mentorship and inclusive growth. Since joining Retroviral in 2021 as a mid-weight designer, I have been promoted twice to Senior Designer and then Design Lead, while working under the mentorship of my Creative Director, who encouraged me to lead with confidence and accountability. Together, we expanded our design studio from a two-person team into a seven-person department. I now oversee operational workflow, mentor junior talent, and facilitate structured development sessions. I have mentored several interns, with three converting to permanent hires, including one I supported from graduate level to mid-senior designer within three years. I also established our agency’s TikTok studio, creating opportunities for brands to engage audiences through innovative, insight-driven content. My purpose-led work on Lil-Lets translated education and bodily autonomy into impactful storytelling, contributing to the brand winning the 2023 Bookmarks Award for Content Marketing Strategy. My work advocating for underrepresented communities was further recognised when I won the 2024 PRovoke Young Changemakers Award (MEA & APAC). |
