Please provide examples of how you have shown passion and had positive impact in your career
(Approx 100-300 words)

Throughout my career, I have shown passion and made a positive impact by creating opportunities for people, strengthening communities, and driving inclusive business practices. At Valterra, I championed the recruitment of our first Engineering graduate within Supply Chain by motivating for the role, drafting a structured development programme, and securing alignment from senior leadership and Human Resources. This initiative not only opened a new talent pipeline but also elevated the capability profile of the Supply Chain function. Earlier in my career at Exxaro, I dedicated time to visiting schools as part of the social impact team, speaking to Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners to motivate them and expose them to opportunities in engineering, mining, and logistics. This work helped inspire young people in local communities to pursue further education and careers in technical fields. Additionally, while managing the repairs portfolio at Grootegeluk, I identified an opportunity to drive local economic development by redirecting a portion of procurement spend toward qualifying local SMMEs. I presented the concept to management and engineering teams, secured their buy‑in, and led the process of auditing and developing capable local suppliers. This initiative strengthened supplier diversity, improved community participation, and supported Exxaro’s commitment to inclusive growth. Across all these examples, my passion has consistently translated into meaningful, sustainable impact for individuals, the business, and surrounding communities.

About Rising Star

The Rising Star Programme, operated by BlackBark Productions, has been established for the purposes of recognising, celebrating and connecting young talented people who have a capacity for achievement and success and who contribute in an inspirational manner to the future of our nation. The qualities that elevate Rising Stars to the top go beyond performance and technical excellence. Rising Stars are polished, brilliant individuals with tremendous promise and great talent who excel for reasons that go far beyond their technical abilities alone.

Talented people make things happen, are highly committed to achieving goals, innovate very rapidly, and create a great deal of value (for companies and/or themselves) when their talent is spotted and harnessed.

The Programme aims to be a significant and sustainable vehicle through which organisations, our country and our continent can identify and nurture these “organisational and national assets” who are set to play a key role in shaping the future of our country and our continent.
