In July 2024, shortly after I joined the department, a laboratory technician resigned without notice or handover. To ensure continuity and maintain customer confidence, I took the initiative to learn the specialized laboratory analysis myself. Although it was outside my original scope, I conducted research and upskilled myself until I was fully competent to perform the analysis independently. This ensured uninterrupted service to our customers, strengthened stakeholder relationships, and rebuilt customer trust in the department.
While working at the power station, I mentored a young graduate by involving her in all my projects and coaching her on navigating the technical and operational environment as an engineer in the power station. The mentorship was successful, as she has since published three international materials in her field.
In my current role, I train vacation work students and Engineers-in-Training. As a senior engineer and (acting) middle manager, I lead a team of chief engineers, senior technologists, senior technicians, and engineers. I promote professionalism, integrity, and accountability while providing support to them.
In 2025, I served as co-lead assistant for the G20 ETWG Outcome 4 work group, guiding the framework structure, allocating tasks, and clarifying expectations to ensure effective delivery.
During weekends in 2017-2019, I tutored mathematics at a local school in Reitkuil, the school was dominated by students whose parents worked in the nearby farms. I also publish papers to enhance my technical expertise.

About Rising Star

The Rising Star Programme, operated by BlackBark Productions, has been established for the purposes of recognising, celebrating and connecting young talented people who have a capacity for achievement and success and who contribute in an inspirational manner to the future of our nation. The qualities that elevate Rising Stars to the top go beyond performance and technical excellence. Rising Stars are polished, brilliant individuals with tremendous promise and great talent who excel for reasons that go far beyond their technical abilities alone.

Talented people make things happen, are highly committed to achieving goals, innovate very rapidly, and create a great deal of value (for companies and/or themselves) when their talent is spotted and harnessed.

The Programme aims to be a significant and sustainable vehicle through which organisations, our country and our continent can identify and nurture these “organisational and national assets” who are set to play a key role in shaping the future of our country and our continent.
