Please provide examples of how you have shown responsible engagement in your career | |
| I have demonstrated responsible engagement throughout my career by ensuring that my academic work is ethically grounded, socially responsive, and developed in partnership with the communities it seeks to serve. I am intentional about working with stakeholders rather than for them, valuing collaboration, respect, and shared ownership. A key example of my responsible engagement is Renewable Rangers, which functions not only as a research and innovation project but also as a community engagement initiative. Through this project, I collaborate with the Department of Education, educators, and schools in disadvantaged communities to introduce climate change and renewable energy education in developmentally appropriate ways. The initiative responds directly to contextual challenges such as limited resources, language diversity, and unequal access to quality STEM learning opportunities. In implementing Renewable Rangers, I work within institutional, ethical, and curricular frameworks, ensuring alignment with policy, safeguarding children’s wellbeing, and maintaining confidentiality and informed consent. I prioritise capacity-building by supporting teachers with research-informed resources and practices that can be sustained beyond the project. My approach to engagement fosters psychological safety, trust, and inclusion. I create spaces where educators, learners, and community partners feel respected, heard, and empowered to contribute meaningfully. I also show empathy and attentiveness to wellbeing, recognising the realities faced by learners and teachers in under-resourced contexts. Through these engagements, I contribute to social prosperity and sustainability by translating research into practical interventions that promote environmental awareness, equity, and long-term educational impact. |
