Please provide examples of how you have shown responsible engagement in your career | |
| I demonstrate responsible engagement by building trust through ethical collaboration and a genuine commitment to impactful, community-focused initiatives. A clear example was my volunteer role in the G20 Community Clean Cooking project. I actively engaged with residents in Kwazamokuhle, Mpumalanga, to distribute over 1,000 clean cooking starter packs. This involved respectful, transparent dialogue to understand community needs, ensuring the initiative supported a just transition to LPG energy while addressing immediate social challenges. It was a powerful exercise in humility, collaboration, and translating sustainability goals into direct local prosperity. Within teams, I fostered psychological safety by empowering colleagues with autonomy and clear boundaries. While managing contractors during plant shutdowns, I delegated specific decision-making authority within strict safety parameters. This approach, coupled with supportive check-ins, built trust and ownership, leading to efficient and incident-free project completions. I extend this ethos of supportive leadership by mentoring junior staff, actively listening to challenges, and helping them navigate solutions, which strengthens team cohesion and individual growth. My professional network is also a channel for responsible engagement. As an industry delegate for associations like SAPVIA and SAEEC, I participate in multi-stakeholder workshops. In these forums, I prioritise inclusivity and transparency, ensuring diverse voices, from policymakers to technical experts, are heard and integrated into collective strategies for skills development and energy efficiency, thereby building credible, value-driven partnerships. Through consistent empathy, ethical integrity, and a focus on collaborative value creation, I ensure my engagement supports both organisational objectives and the broader well-being of people and communities. |
