Please provide examples of how you have shown responsible engagement in your career
(Approx 100-300 words)

I have demonstrated responsible engagement in my career by taking a long-term, ethical approach to how technology is designed, deployed, and used, particularly in regulated and high-impact environments.

In developing Axis, a transaction and data management platform for financial service providers, I engaged closely with clients to understand regulatory obligations, consumer risk, and operational accountability. Rather than optimising purely for speed or automation, I deliberately designed controls around transaction status visibility, reversals, and dispute handling. This ensured that organisations using Axis could identify issues early, resolve errors transparently, and avoid practices that could negatively impact end users.

Responsible engagement has also meant knowing when not to deploy technology. In several cases, I have advised clients to delay automation or scale-up until governance, data quality, and internal controls were sufficiently mature. While this sometimes slowed short-term progress, it protected both the organisation and its customers from operational and compliance risk.

More broadly, my work reflects a commitment to building systems that respect data integrity, user trust, and institutional responsibility. I prioritise clear audit trails, role-based access, and decision transparency, particularly in sectors such as finance and healthcare where technology decisions can have direct consequences for people’s livelihoods and wellbeing.

Through these choices, I have aimed to ensure that innovation is pursued responsibly — strengthening institutions and protecting users, rather than creating avoidable risk or harm.

About Rising Star

The Rising Star Programme, operated by BlackBark Productions, has been established for the purposes of recognising, celebrating and connecting young talented people who have a capacity for achievement and success and who contribute in an inspirational manner to the future of our nation. The qualities that elevate Rising Stars to the top go beyond performance and technical excellence. Rising Stars are polished, brilliant individuals with tremendous promise and great talent who excel for reasons that go far beyond their technical abilities alone.

Talented people make things happen, are highly committed to achieving goals, innovate very rapidly, and create a great deal of value (for companies and/or themselves) when their talent is spotted and harnessed.

The Programme aims to be a significant and sustainable vehicle through which organisations, our country and our continent can identify and nurture these “organisational and national assets” who are set to play a key role in shaping the future of our country and our continent.
