Please provide examples of how you demonstrate systems thinking and sense-making ability in your career

(Approx 100-300 words)

I have learned that isolated interventions rarely create sustainable impact. I therefore approach every engagement systemically — analysing how people, processes, technology, compliance requirements, and market forces interact before proposing solutions.

When implementing digital platforms and learning ecosystems, I step back to map the full business system: reporting lines, workflow bottlenecks, skills gaps, regulatory obligations, and customer expectations. This allows me to identify root causes rather than surface symptoms. For example, in several projects where performance issues were initially attributed to staff capability, deeper analysis revealed fragmented processes and unclear accountability structures. By redesigning information flows and aligning training to operational objectives, we improved both productivity and morale.

In sectors such as PPE supply and industrial compliance, I consider broader economic and global supply-chain dynamics. This informed the decision to explore local manufacturing capability — not only as a commercial opportunity, but as a strategic response to import volatility, ESG expectations, and localisation policy trends.

I also integrate emotional and cultural intelligence into leadership. By listening carefully to stakeholder concerns — from executives to frontline workers — I build context beyond metrics and reports. This enables more balanced decision-making, anticipates resistance or risk, and ensures that change initiatives are grounded in organisational reality.

My systems-thinking approach ensures that strategy, operations, and people development move in alignment, creating durable and scalable impact.

About Rising Star

The Rising Star Programme, operated by BlackBark Productions, has been established for the purposes of recognising, celebrating and connecting young talented people who have a capacity for achievement and success and who contribute in an inspirational manner to the future of our nation. The qualities that elevate Rising Stars to the top go beyond performance and technical excellence. Rising Stars are polished, brilliant individuals with tremendous promise and great talent who excel for reasons that go far beyond their technical abilities alone.

Talented people make things happen, are highly committed to achieving goals, innovate very rapidly, and create a great deal of value (for companies and/or themselves) when their talent is spotted and harnessed.

The Programme aims to be a significant and sustainable vehicle through which organisations, our country and our continent can identify and nurture these “organisational and national assets” who are set to play a key role in shaping the future of our country and our continent.
