Please provide examples of how you have shown responsible engagement in your career | |
| Responsible engagement has been central to how I build and lead initiatives. In founding and growing Phapano – The Difference, I have prioritised integrity, transparency, and ethical responsibility in all engagements with students, mentors, partners, and stakeholders. Clear role expectations, structured communication channels, and defined boundaries ensure that participants understand the scope and limitations of the platform, particularly given the sensitivities surrounding psychology training pathways. I deeply value confidentiality and psychological safety, especially when working with students navigating competitive and often stressful application processes. Workshops and mentorship spaces are intentionally structured to foster respect, open dialogue, and peer encouragement rather than comparison. This has helped cultivate environments where participants feel safe to ask questions, admit uncertainty, and grow. Collaboration is central to my approach. Several former mentees have transitioned into mentor roles, contributing back into the programme and strengthening its sustainability. I actively engage qualified professionals, university stakeholders, and community partners to co-create solutions rather than working in isolation. This collaborative model ensures that initiatives are responsive to real needs and aligned with professional standards and norms. Beyond programme delivery, I aim to contribute meaningfully to broader social prosperity by promoting equitable access to information and opportunity within the psychology profession. My leadership style emphasises empathy, shared ownership, and supporting the success of others. By building strong, trust-based networks and working within established professional frameworks, I strive to create impact that is ethical, sustainable, and people-centred. |

About Rising Star
The Rising Star Programme, operated by BlackBark Productions, has been established for the purposes of recognising, celebrating and connecting young talented people who have a capacity for achievement and success and who contribute in an inspirational manner to the future of our nation. The qualities that elevate Rising Stars to the top go beyond performance and technical excellence. Rising Stars are polished, brilliant individuals with tremendous promise and great talent who excel for reasons that go far beyond their technical abilities alone.
Talented people make things happen, are highly committed to achieving goals, innovate very rapidly, and create a great deal of value (for companies and/or themselves) when their talent is spotted and harnessed.
The Programme aims to be a significant and sustainable vehicle through which organisations, our country and our continent can identify and nurture these “organisational and national assets” who are set to play a key role in shaping the future of our country and our continent.
The Rising Star Programme is establishing a living community of young African talent that will be developed, mentored and provided with platforms for development and communication, therefore enabling them to become role models, opinion leaders and the inspiration for other future African Talent.
